Have we got a cool water story for you!

Imagine over 60 grade 1 students paired with over 60 grade 8 students! Last year we participated in the NPCA's Yellow Fish Road program to help inform our community about types of things that should be kept out of storm drains in order to help protect our area watershed.

Here's a great explanation of the program from Trout Unlimited Canada:
TUC’s Yellow Fish Road™ program targets and engages Canada’s youth to protect Canada’s water, not only for today but for the future as well. Students learn about the impact pollution has on their community and what steps they can take to protect their local water.
Yellow Fish Road™ volunteers paint yellow fish symbols with the words ‘Rain Only’ adjacent to storm drains and distribute fish-shaped brochures to nearby households reminding people that anything that enters the local storm drain system, good or bad, ends up in their water.

It was a great morning for students. They really felt like they made a difference! We hope to participate in this program again this spring with our Water Warriors! Be sure to check out our video from last year!

Who are we?

We are an active group of involved grade 8 students who are curious about learning and who like to have fun! We go to Central French Immersion Public School in Grimsby and we take our water seriously!

We are settlers to the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), Ojibway/Chippewa territories. We have a lot to say about water! Be sure to check out Challenge #1 for the Waterlution Great Water Challenge.
